Fuel Spill Leads To Arrest

Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested two people in connection with a fuel spill Tuesday morning on Arkansas 16.

Anthony Steven Stobaugh, 22, of 5404 W. Magnolia St. in Rogers and Daisy Lynn Bohannan, 23, of 20558 Springston Ford Road in Elkins face a felony charge in connection with theft of property, along with misdemeanor criminal mischief and criminal trespass.

Elkins Fire Chief J.D. DeMotte said firefighters went to a fuel spill in front of 11694 Arkansas 16 at 4:18 a.m.

“There was a trailer with a 300-gallon tank of diesel fuel that had been taken from a nearby farm,” he said. “It came detached from the truck that was pulling it and the trailer went off the roadway, overturned and ruptured the fuel tank.”

Police blocked westbound traffic for three or four hours, he said, while Fayetteville’s Hazardous Material crew cleaned up the fuel.

“We dammed it up on each end to keep the fuel from going any farther and rolled the tank up to keep it from leaking,” DeMotte said.

A driver for Terra Renewal Services told deputies the trailer was stolen from the farm where they had been working, which is between Durham and Shumate Cemetery Road, according to an arrest report. The theft was reported at 3:35 a.m.

Deputies found a truck on Springston Ford Road matching the description of the vehicle used to steal the trailer, according to the report.

Bohannan said she had nothing to do with the stolen trailer. She identified Stobaugh as the driver of the truck, according to the report.

Deputies found shoe and tire impression marks at the farm matching Stobaugh’s shoes and truck, along with other evidence.

Bohannan and Stobaugh were arrested and taken to the Washington County Detention Center, where they were being held without bond Tuesday.
