Alma Routs Shiloh

— The depleted Shiloh Christian Saints were no match for a team in search of its fifth straight outright 5A-West Conference championship.

Alma scored the first 10 points on the game on Tuesday night and had three 20-point quarters in racing to a 78-49 win against the Saints in boys basketball action.

Alma (15-3, 5-1 5A-West) took a 21-9 first quarter lead and added 47 points in the second half with 24 points in the third quarter and 23 in the fourth quarter.

The Saints (7-11, 2-4) were without their two leading scorers in Darian Harris and Daniel Matthews, who missed the game with injuries.

“Our two biggest weapons were unavailable so our chances were slim,” Saints coach Brent Hester said. “They're probably 85 percent of our scoring and ball handling so it really hurts. I'm proud of our players for playing hard. They competed the whole time and kept us in it.”

Trenton Crawford scored 13 points and Ryder Anderson added 11 points for Shiloh Christian.

Matthews is suffering from a recurring hamstring injury, and Harris suffered a toe injury. Both could be out an extended length of time, Hester said.

Austin Lee led Alma with 22 points, nailing three 3-pointers in the first three minutes of the game.

“We made plays all night that we needed to make,” Alma coach Stan Flenor said. “Obviously, there are some things on both sides of the ball, offensively and defensively, for us that we can improve on.”

Jake Folkerts and Mason Wight each came off the bench to score 10 points for Alma.
