UA pitchers arrested, charged with shoplifting

Arkansas freshman pitchers Colin Poche and Adam Meyer were arrested by Fayetteville police Sunday and charged with misdemeanor shoplifting.

Poche and Meyer, both 19, attempted to steal two cases of beer and some deli sandwiches from a Fayetteville Wal-Mart about 4 p.m. Sunday, according to the police report.

The two were observed by security personnel putting the beer into a tote bag, taking some sandwiches and then exiting the store without paying for the items, according to the report. The security personnel then confronted Poche and Meyer in the parking lot and brought them back into the store to await the arrival of police officers.

Arkansas Coach Dave Van Horn didn’t comment on the arrests, but is aware of the situation and is in the process of gathering information, a UA spokesman said. When Van Horn has all the facts, he will make a decision on any punishment, the spokesman said.

Poche and Meyer were booked into the Washington County Detention Center and were released after posting bonds of $565.
