Men Face Felony Drug Charges

Two Eureka, Calif., men face felony drug charges in connection with transporting 54 pounds of prepackaged marijuana through Washington County on Sunday.

Deputy Shawn Wilson arrested Scott Fretland, 32, and Wayne Lovel, 34, following a 1:30 p.m. traffic stop on U.S. 412.

According to a preliminary arrest report, Fretland was driving a red Hyundai Santa Fe too close to the vehicle in front of him. The sheriff’s deputy questioned the men, who exhibited “nervous behavior,” according to the arrest report.

Police dogs alerted deputies to the passenger-side door of the SUV, according to the arrest report.

A black duffel bag with multiple small bags of marijuana, $1,127 in cash, two glass pipes, two packs of rolling papers, a wooden marijuana crusher, a counterfeit bill-checking marker and a bag with a brown paste-like substance in it were found in the vehicle.

The men are facing charges of felony possession of a controlled substance, felony possession with intent to deliver and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. Both were being held Monday in the Washington County Detention Center on $2,500 bond.
