"Lincoln" To Be Shown At Lincoln School District Auditorium

City is one of eight sites nationally for special showing

— “Lincoln” is coming to Lincoln.

The Lincoln School District is one of eight sites across the country — all named Lincoln — where the Oscar-nominated film starring Daniel Day Lewis and Sally Field will be show on Feb. 12.

Lincoln High School Principal Mary Ann Spears told the Lincoln School Board on Monday the city received the request and asked the school district to take the lead on the project.

The planning of the event will be handed over to a technology class at the high school Tuesday morning to make it a student-led event, Spears told the board.

While endorsing the project, school board members had little comment about the event.

Kendra Moore asked about the movie’s rating. Administrators at the meeting said it was PG-13.

Scott Davis suggested local dignitaries in the city and county be invited to the event.

The program is intended to spark conversation about citizenship, according to information receive from Participant Media, an entertainment company focusing on films, and other media, reflecting social issues, and Active Voice, a California communications company within the film, television and multimedia industry, handling details.

The film, “Lincoln,” is the story of the final months in the life of President Abraham Lincoln and the political struggles over passage of the 13th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution to end slavery.

Spears said the film will be shown in the district’s 500-seat auditorium which is located in the former high school building. That building has been converted to the middle school with the opening of the new high school.

The event will be open to the public but a time will be determined by the students selected to plan the event.

Student events will be developed at the high school to coincide with the showing, Spears said.

An email to Nicole Wong, a program and communications coordinator at Active Voice, was not answered on Monday. The telephone number listed on the website was answered electronically Monday morning and went to voice mail.

The letter sent by Active Voice states there is no financial commitment required for the showing.

The goal of the project, the letter continues, is to open conversation around citizenship.

The showing on Feb. 12 commemorates the 204th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s birthday.
