— A pair of Arkansas baseball players were arrested Sunday and charged with shoplifting.

Colin Poche and Adam Meyer were booked in the Washington County jail at 7:26 Sunday night after being arrested by Fayetteville police. Both were later released on a $565 bond.

According to the arrest report, Meyer and Poche attempted to steal sandwiches and two cases of beer from the Walmart Supercenter located on Martin Luther King Blvd. in Fayetteville. Brandon Meredith, identified as one of the store's loss prevention officers, told police he witnessed Poche place two cases of beer in a tote bag before both removed price labels from sandwiches they had picked up from the deli and disposed of them in a trash can.

The two exited the store with no attempt to pay for the items, according to the report. They were confronted by Meredith and a co-worker outside the store.

The stolen items were recovered before both were taken to jail. Both have hearings scheduled for Wednesday.

Both players are freshmen left-handed pitchers for the Razorbacks. Poche was selected in the fifth round of the MLB Draft last summer by the Baltimore Orioles, but turned down a pro offer to attend the UA.

A team spokesperson said Arkansas coach Dave Van Horn was in the process of gathering facts and would make a decision on disciplinary action once he has all available information. The Razorbacks, ranked No. 1 nationally by one publication in the preseason, begin practice Friday and open the season Feb. 15.

Looks like Poche is just full of bad decisions. First bad decision is to turn down a fifth round pick. With the bonus he would have recieved, he could have bought a warehouse full of beer. Second bad decision was to come to the U of A and ruin the left arm pitching in the snow. Should have been at CalState, Florida, or Arizona.

Third bad decision was to think he could conceal two cases of beer in a tote bag. Should have took light beer and he might have got away with it. The other one looks like he was along for the ride.
