Hit, Run Leads To Arrest

— A driver faces felony charges after police said he struck two pedestrians near Dickson Street and fled Saturday morning.

Police arrested Charles Kalan Jones, 26, of 1725 W. Bedford Loop No. 3 in Fayetteville in connection with felony leaving the scene of an accident with injury and false imprisonment, along with misdemeanor driving while intoxicated, one or no headlights, no proof of insurance and reckless driving.

Police Sgt. Shannon Gabbard said Lauren Fowler and Tyler Pauls, both 21 of Fayetteville suffered non-life threatening injuries.

They were taken to Washington Regional Medical Center, but weren’t listed as patients in the hospital’s roster on Saturday afternoon.

Police said Fowler and Pauls were crossing University Avenue, near the Bank of America, about 2 a.m. when Jones hit them with a BMW.

“The female rolled onto the hood of the car and impacted the windshield, which gave way,” Gabbard said. “She fell into the passenger seat of the vehicle and the male, who also rolled onto the hood, was left on the side of the road.”

Gabbard said Jones left with Fowler in the front seat of his car.

According to a preliminary arrest report, Fowler asked Jones to cal 911. He reportedly dropped her off near Powerhouse Seafood & Grill and drove away.

At about the same time, Gabbard said a patrol officer noticed a BMW with a missing window. The officer stopped the car near Duncan Avenue and Center Street. Dispatch operators told the officer the car matched the description of one involved in the pedestrian accident, the report said.

Jones was arrested and taken to the Washington County Detention Center, where he was being held Saturday on $4,790 bond.
