Today the Sugar Bears face last-place Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, which is led by former Marshall coach Royce Chadwick. Chadwick was replaced at Marshall by former UCA coach Matt Daniel, who worked in Conway in 2008-2012.

CHALK TALK UALR has lost five of its past six Sun Belt Conference games, the worst stretch since Coach Joe Foley’s third season in 2006. In its past two losses, UALR has been unable to slow the opponent’s leading scorer. FIU’s Jerica Coley scored 37 points Jan. 12 and Ebony Rowe had 35 pounds and 17 rebounds Wednesday. Today, they’ll try to slow guard Alexis Govan, whose average of 19.8 points per game is third in the Sun Belt.

UAPB women vs. Texas Southern

CHALK TALK Texas Southern has won four consecutive games, and it scored 91 points in a victory over Grambling State on Monday. Its scoring average has gone up in each of the past four games. UAPB has beaten Texas Southern in Pine Bluff each of the past four seasons. Texas Southern is the only team UAPB has defeated the past two seasons.

CHALK TALK UAPB has tied its best start to the SWAC season during George Ivory’s past five seasons. The last time it started 4-1 in the SWAC was 2010, the year it advanced to the NCAA Tournament. For the third consecutive game, UAPB is playing a team in the top four of the league standings. The Golden Lions beat Alcorn State on Monday, two days after losing to Southern University of Baton Rouge. UAPB and Texas Southern are tied for second in the SWAC.
