— Authorities said Tom Cruise may be the latest so-called swatting victim after police responded to a 911 call of an armed robbery at the actor’s Beverly Hills, Calif., house Thursday and found no crime had been committed. Shortly after noon, police received a call reporting a robbery, Sgt. Renato Moreno said. Officers responded to the house, spoke with private security and then conducted a search. Nothing was found. Cruise andhis family weren’t home when the call was made. There were no arrests. Police are investigating the incident as a false report of an emergency, a practice that has been dubbed “swatting” because it is intended to get multiple officers, including a Special Weapons and Tactics team, sent to a home. In December, a minor was arrested over allegations he made calls that reported violence at the homes of Justin Bieber and Ashton Kutcher. Prosecutors are reviewing the case and haven’t yet made a decision on whether to file charges. Similar hoax calls have been made involving the homes of Miley Cyrus and Simon Cowell. Responding to such calls usually means more than half of the emergency resources in Beverly Hills are being used, Moreno said. “It certainly is something that ties us up,” Moreno said.

John Mayer performed at his first concert in nearly two years, a fundraiser he helped organize to benefit firefighters that helped save his home and others from a Montana wildfire. The Bozeman Daily Chronicle reported that Mayer started with his first live performance of “If I Ever Get Around to Living” at the concert Wednesday in Bozeman, which included Zac Brown and raised more than $100,000. The 8,500-acre fire ragedin late August near Livingston, while Mayer was in Los Angeles receiving treatment for a growth near his vocal cords. The singer-songwriter said Botox injections used to keep his vocal cords from pressing together while they heal have limited his ability to hit high notes.
