FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas has played just nine games in 90 basketball seasons that went two overtimes or longer, according to the UA media guide, and Razorbacks Coach Mike Anderson has been on the bench for three of those games.
The longest game Arkansas ever played was a 90-84 three-overtime loss at Houston on Feb. 2, 1980. The Razorbacks played their eighth double-overtime game Wednesday night when they beat Auburn 88-80 at Walton Arena.
Arkansas is 6-3 in games that went double or triple overtime.
The Razorbacks’ two most recent double-overtime games before Wednesday night were a 73-71 loss at TCU on Feb. 5, 1986, and a 100-97 victory at Texas A&M on Feb. 23, 1987. Anderson was an Arkansas assistant for Nolan Richardson during those games.
Anderson laughed when asked Thursday if he remembered the Razorbacks’ previous double-overtime game at Texas A&M 26 years ago.
