PUBLIC VIEWPOINT Nation Must Change Course To Move Forward

Friday, January 18, 2013

Iwant to align myself completely with the thoughts and positions expressed by Mr.

Ronald Baker in his letter (Public Viewpoint, Jan.

15). But I must expand his arguments beyond gun control issues.

During our American Revolution, the Honorable Edmund Burke, member of the English Parliament, said, “All that is essential for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.” Mr. Burke was not a supporter of the English King, rather he was trying to persuade his fellow parliamentarians of the rights of the colonists toself determination.

My hope and prayer today is that there will be enough good men and women in the present Congress to work within the parameters of our wonderful Constitution and Bill of Rights, to aft rmatively set aside power political greed, and act for the good of our country. That need is urgent and timely - the financial crisis is upon us now. A socialist regime will follow if you fail now.

Setting aside Mrs. Pelosi and Mr. Reid, will the good men and women in Congress look to the needs of today and act so that Mr. Baker’s andmy grandchildren will have a future America with economic and fi scal soundness, strength to protect them from internal and external enemies, and allow them their freedom of choice. Gun control is but one issue; fi scal responsibility, eliminating unnecessary regulation, and promoting progress in the economic engines that have proven themselves in the 20th century are just some of the others.

Unfortunately, none of these positive activities are within the prime agenda of the current administration. But the creation of a socialisticwelfare state is.

Without the dedicated efforts of good men and women in Congress, America is headed, in my opinion, down the road to third-world status, and thus, fair game for those who would enslave us. What language do we want our grandchildren to recognize as their native tongue? I join Mr. Baker in “I pledged my life to defend, protect and uphold the Constitution.”

Members of Congress you must change the present course of action.
