Police Chief Warns Of Meter Scam

— Police Chief Jon Simpson warned Thursday of a possible scam involving a telephone caller asking for credit or debit card information to pay for new electric meters being installed across the city.

The Bentonville Police Department started to receive complaints about the caller Tuesday, Simpson said.

The city is upgrading electric and water meters at city residences, but there’s no upgrade fee for the meters, Simpson said.

The phone number associated with the scam is 985-400-3628, Simpson said.

Simpson urged residents to call police at 479-271-3170 if they receive calls from anyone representing themselves as an employee with the city requesting payments for meter upgrades.
