Two Mounties Sign With Allen CC

— Camdon Myers and Austin Griffin will be teammates for at least two more seasons.

The Rogers High baseball players both found a college home in Kansas and they made it official as they signed to play baseball at Allen Community College in Iola, Kan., on Tuesday.

They will be seniors on the Mounties’ baseball team this spring. Griffin is a three-year starter at catcher, while Myers played at several spots in the infield as a junior.

Rogers has a long history of sending players on to play college baseball and coach Matt Melson said seeing players move on is always rewarding.

“When we have kids that can go on and play, that is a proud moment for us,” Melson said. “Both those kids are deserving and they are both kids that project to play at four-year schools. They both play the game hard, hustle and play the game the right way.”

Griffin batted .342 with 13 RBIs and one home run while earning 7A/6A-West All-Conference honors as a junior.

“Being good friends, it’s really going to help out going to the same school as Camdon,” Griffin said. “We have been looking around together, and it just so happened the same school contacted us. The field, the facilities and the academics also played a part. They said I will be playing catcher and outfield, but catcher is my first preference.”

Myers can be plugged in at every position but pitcher and catcher and he hit .333 with a .440 on base percentage last season. Myers is expecting to get a look at second base and he said the program’s success of moving players to four-year schools was a big consideration.

Allen is coached by Valis McLean, who has a 1,141-696 record at the school.

“The facilities they have there are really nice,” Myers said. “One of the things they stressed is that 60 percent of their players move on to Division I or Division II programs. And the coach is in the Junior College Hall of Fame, which is pretty impressive.”
