Siloam Springs Ballot Draw Reset

— The draw for ballot position in the Siloam Springs special primary election has been shifted to 5 p.m. Jan. 30 at Siloam Springs City Hall.

John Brown Jr., chairman of the county Election Commission, said the ballot draw was moved from Jan. 29 to Jan. 30 at the request of the Siloam Springs City Clerk’s Office. Brown said the clerk’s office contacted the commission and asked for more time to verify signatures on candidate petitions for the special election. The deadline for filing is noon Jan. 29, Brown said, and the clerks office wasn’t sure five hours would give it enough time to check all signatures.

A special primary election to fill a vacancy on the city Board of Directors is set for April 9. John Turner was elected to the Ward 1 seat on the board in 2010, according to information from the city. Turner was elected mayor in 2012, creating the Ward 1 vacancy. If no candidate wins a majority of the votes in the April 9 primary, a special municipal election to decide the winner will be held May 14.
