PUBLIC VIEWPOINT: Debate Over God Will Never End

I loved your article on Fayetteville Freethinker Doug Krueger, who applies his “wit and intellect with obvious glee” in debates with Christians.

Good for him. Apply away!

I am sure his group, which stresses “conscientious reflection and rational inquiry,” will thump us believers every time, wow us with impressive sounding beliefs. His stepfather told him not to be “afraid of the truth.” Yes, we Christians have no answer for that. Like he (and President Obama, too) believe, we “cling” to biblical teachings and “ideology ahead of common sense and morality.” He says it is “game over” for the Christian society.

No one has been surer the “game” was over since the day Christ died on the cross. Even the apostles ran and stopped clinging to their beliefs. That lasted three days. But the debate never ends.

I am happy that Professor Krueger is comfortable with everything he needs to know “without having God involved.” I pray that Krueger is the good man he seems to be, living by his beliefs, an atheist who is not a bad person. I have this image of him arriving in heaven one day ready to take on our Creator in a debate on whether there is aGod. I’ll pay to sit in on that one.

Bella Vista SILENCE IN AIR IS GOLDEN

I have mixed feelings about your recent editorial (FAA Should Revise Rules On Phone Use, Jan. 14).

On the one hand, I have no problem with the FAA allowing silent electronic devices be used. Devices such as iPads, electronic readers and cell phones for texting only.

On the other hand, I have a real problem with the FAA allowing nonsilent (verbalcommunication) usage of cellphones while on board the aircraft.

My issue is not a technological one, rather it is a common courtesy one. How would you like to board an aircraft and be seated next to or very near some moron who just has to carry on a (usually loud) mundane conversation for the entire flight? I certainly wouldn’t and would probably at some time ask the moron to shut up. Air rage, here we come.

Airline travel is already unpleasant enough. Why add more unpleasantness to it?
