— Nicholas Sheley was sentenced Wednesday in the death of 93-year-old Russell Reed. Jurors convicted Sheley in November. A judge also sentenced Sheley to 30 years for home invasion and 15 years for residential burglary. Sheley declined to give a statement in court. The Daily Gazette in Sterling, Ill., reported that the judge also denied a request from Sheley’s defense attorney for a new trial in Reed’s killing.

Sheley already was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Ronald Randall, 65, of Galesburg. He faces a tentative June trial in the slayings of four people found in a Rock Falls apartment.

Sheley also is charged with killing the Sherwood couple, Tom Estes, 54, and his wife, Jill Estes, 54, at a motel in Festus, Mo., on July 1, 2008.
