Siloam can’t slow Fayetteville’s roll

— Siloam Springs couldn’t find a way to slow down Fayetteville, either.

The Bulldogs overpowered the Panthers in a matchup of two of the 7A/6A-West Conference’s top boys teams as they rolled to a 52-26 mercy rule victory Tuesday night at Bulldog Arena.

Fayetteville’s average margin of victory in conference games is 32.8 points per game.

“Everything we do is centered around our defense, and if we don’t guard very well we’re average,” Fayetteville Coach Kyle Adams said. “Tonight, and the last two or three nights, we’ve played, we’ve guarded really well.”

The Bulldogs (14-3, 4-0) forced Siloam Springs into 16 turnovers and scored 26 points off of them as Fayetteville ended Siloam Springs’ six-game winning streak.

“Fayetteville’s good, ” Siloam Springs Coach Tim Stewart said. “We knew that coming in, but we want to put our best foot forward every time we take the floor. We came out a little sluggish and survived their first run, and I thought we got a little tentative and wide-eyed.”

Siloam Springs (13-2, 3-1) trailed 17-9 after the first quarter when Payton Henson banked in a shot, but that was as close as the Panthers would get.

Fayetteville opened the second quarter scoring the first 14 points and took a 33-14 lead into halftime. The lead grew to as much as 34 points in the third quarter, and the fourth quarter was played with a running clock via the sportsmanship rule.

Jawan Smith had a game-high 15 points and Caleb Waitsman had 10 for Fayetteville. Henson led Siloam Springs with 11 points.

Fayetteville (6-11, 2-2) forced 24 turnovers and held Siloam Springs (8-7, 1-3) without a field goal from the end of the first quarter to the middle of the third, turning a fourpoint deficit into a 15-point lead as the Lady Bulldogs cruised to victory in a 7A/6A-West Conference game at Bulldog Arena.

Siloam Springs junior Morgan Miller and sophomore Mayse Pippin hit back-to-back three-pointers to give the Lady Panthers a 16-12 lead with 1:56 left in the first quarter, but that was the last field goal by the Lady Panthers until Miller scored in transition with 4:18 remaining in the third quarter.

By then, the Lady Bulldogs led 37-24 and were in control of the game. Fayetteville forced 16 turnovers by Siloam Springs in the first half and outscored the Lady Panthers 18-3 to take a 30-19 lead into halftime. Aubrey Edie had three baskets in that stretch, and Brittany Austin scored on a three-point play.

Edie scored 12 points to lead the Lady Bulldogs, who had 11 players score.
