— 3A, 4A coaches lead stars

Roddy Mote of Harding Academy and Tony Travis of Pea Ridge have been named head coaches for the 58th annual Arkansas High School Coaches Association All-Star football game.

Mote led Harding Academy to a 14-0 record and the Class 3A state championship last fall.

He will be assisted by Spencer Hill of Highland, Tim Harper of Searcy, Cody Curtis of Salem, Patrick Russell of Mills, Brad Bolding of North Little Rock and Gail Mote of Harding Academy.

Travis led Pea Ridge to a 10-2 record and the second round of the Class 4A playoffs last fall.

West assistants are: Shane Patrick of Springdale, Ronnie Efird of Magnet Cove, Randy Tribble of Greenbrier, Mark Kehner of Glen Rose, Bobby Bolding of Pine Bluff and Lafe Caton of Pea Ridge.

The All-Star football game is 7 p.m. June 21 at the University of Central Arkansas’ Estes Stadium in Conway.

Coaching staffs for the All-Star volleyball game also were released Tuesday.

Vickie Gatewood of Nettleton will coach the East and be assisted by Melissa Williams of Piggott, Craig Cummings of Jonesboro and Cade Smith of Central Arkansas Christian.

West Coach Jessica Phelan of Fayetteville will be assisted by Tina Moore of Fountain Lake, Hannah McDonald of Prairie Grove and Shyrah Perry of Shiloh Christian.

The All-Star volleyball game is 7 p.m. June 19 at UCA’s Farris Center.

The AHSCA clinic is June 19-21 at UCA.

ARFCA Clinic

The fourth annual Arkansas Football Coaches Association/Ronnie Roach BSN Clinic is Feb. 8-10 at the Arlington Resort Hotel and Spa in Hot Springs.

Five coaches who won Arkansas high school state championships last fall are scheduled to speak: Daryl Patton of Fayetteville (7A), Rick Jones of Greenwood (6A), Buck James of Camden Fairview (5A), Billy Elmore of Stuttgart (4A) and RoddyMote of Harding Academy (3A).

Jones was the 2012 Arkansas Democrat-Gazette Coach of the Year after leading the Bulldogs to a 14-0 record and their third consecutive state championship.

Jones was named National Federation of State High Schools Associations Coach of the Year in 2012.

Also scheduled to speak are coaches from Arkansas and Arkansas State.

Razorbacks Coach Bret Bielema will speak Feb. 8.

Red Wolves Coach Bryan Harsin will speak the following day.

ATCA Clinic

The Arkansas Track Coaches Association Clinic is Jan. 24-25 in Fayetteville.

Pre-registration is $100 and $125 at the door.

The first day of the clinic will be held at the Clarion Hotel, with Arkansas’ Tyson Center hosting the second day.
