Team investigates house fire that killed Hardy woman

— A fire investigation team will attempt today to determine the cause of a house fire that killed a Hardy woman, Hardy Police Chief Ernie Rose said.

Patricia Arms, 67, died in the blaze Friday afternoon in her Cope Avenue home on theeastern edge of downtown.

Rose said firefighters were called to the house about 3:30 p.m. Friday. When they arrived, the house was engulfed in flames. Authorities found Arms’ body in the living room. Rose said it appeared the fire began in the home’s kitchen, and he does not believe foulplay was involved.

He said fire inspectors will sift through the charred remains of the home today to determine the origin and cause of the fire.

A Hardy firefighter was injured when he was cut by window glass when he attempted to enter the house.
