BASEBALL

• The War Eagle Baseball Training Camp will be held Sundays through January to give baseball training to youngsters from kindgarten through eighth grade who attend a school that feeds into Rogers Heritage. Others who attend private school but live within the Heritage boundaries are also eligible to attend. The training will be held inside the Heritage Indoor athletic facility. • NWA Patriots competitive USSSA 13- 14 Year old AA team will host tryouts at Memorial Park in Bentonville on Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. Players cannot be over age 14 by or before April 30, 2013. Many games will be played on Tuesday and Thursday night, plus approximately 4- 5 tournaments within the NWA area. The fee is $500 for the season and practices begin Feb. 1. Players must call coach Box at 738-7100 to register a tryout time slot.

• Registration for Bentonville Youth Baseball is under way. Players may register online at www.bentonvillecalripken.org through Feb. 15. League fees are: Ages 4-7, $65; Ages 8-10, $85; Ages 11-16, $95. A $10 late registration fee will be charged for all registrations after Feb.15. The League Age cutoff date for Cal Ripken/Babe Ruth is April 30. If you have played in the league in the last couple of years, please use your SportsPilot user name/password for your child.

Because of the increasing amount of incorrect birthdates during registration, all birth certificates will need to be verified by a BYB Board member. All players who were on a post-season all-star team after Spring 2012 have already been verified. Players will not be placed on a team until their birth certificate has been verified. Players who will be trying out need to bring their birth certificates with them to tryout. The board will be available to verify birth certificates on the following dates at Dink’s BBQ (3404 S.W. Macy Road, Bentonville) from 5 to 7 p.m. each Thursday through Feb. 7, and Tuesday, Feb. 12.

Tryouts will be held inside at the Tiger Athletic Complex on Feb. 16. The times for each age group will be posted on the BYB website. Players who will be ages 10, 12 and 14 who played last spring will not need to try out this year. They will play on the same team as last year. Players not attending a tryout cannot be drafted by a team and will be assigned to a team by a random drawing. Players from ages 4 to 7 will not have a tryout and will be assigned to teams by the commissioner of their age group.

• NWA Nitro Baseball is looking for one player to fill its roster for an USSSA 8U AA Machine Pitch team. Will will play 10-11 tournaments through the summer. Player cannot be 9 years old before April 30. Contact Mike Young at [email protected].

BASKETBALL

• Lowell First Baptist Church and Rogers 1st Church of the Nazarene will offer Upward Basketball/Cheerleading to all of the youth of NWA. The programs are open to boys and girls ages 5 through sixth-grade. The cost is $75. Online registration at www.fbc-lowell.com or at either of the churches. FENCING

• Northwest Arkansas Fencing Center, 1100 S.E. 14th St. Suite 16 in Bentonville, are offering January Introductory Fencing Classes on Mondays and Wednesdays. Classes are from 6 to 7 p.m. and run for three weeks. Cost is $120 and includes all equipment. Call 696-7776 or email [email protected].

• NWA Lacrosse is seeking coaches and players in third-grade through high school for boys and girls teams. The season starts in March and ends in May. SOCCER

• The Arkansas Comets are hosting Winter Soccer Schools at All-Star Sports Arena in Springdale in January and February. Classes meet once a week and are administered by Dave O’Brien and the Comets U17 Boys team. There are two classes. Regular soccer school is for ages 4 to 12. There is also an Advanced Ball Skills class for advanced players, ages 10 and up. SOFTBALL

VOLLEYBALL

• Registration for Winter Co-ed Adult Volleyball at the Yvonne Richardson Center in Fayetteville are open through Thursday. The cost for each team is $250 for 7 games, plus a guaranteed spot in the post-season tournament.
