Police Interview Homicide Witness

A woman injured during last week’s double homicide corroborated details of the shooting, according to Greenland Police Chief Gary Ricker.

Mandrake P. Patterson, 27, is in jail and accused of killing his wife and mother-in-law and wounding Denise Fulfer.

Investigators spoke to Fulfer, 55, at Washington Regional Medical Center on Sunday, Ricker said. She confirmed other witness accounts of the incident, he said. Ricker would not provide details about her statement.

Fulfer was shot in the shoulder and listed in good condition Friday night at the hospital. She was not listed as a patient Monday morning, said Gina Maddox, spokeswoman.

Ricker said all evidence has been sent to the state crime laboratory.

“This is going to be a relatively cut and dry case, but anytime you have a homicide, it brings a lot of paperwork and reports that we're in the process of completing,” he said.

Patterson’s arraignment has been set for Feb. 13. He faces felony charges of two counts of capital murder and attempted murder.

Police and witnesses said Friday that Patterson shot his 34-year-old wife Hope Patterson in an apartment in Greenland.

He then shot and killed his mother-in-law Betty DeSalvo, 53, and shot Fulfer, police said.

Police found DeSalvo dead in the apartment with a gunshot wound to the head.

Hope Patterson, an Army veteran and mother of three, died at the hospital.

Greenland police officers arrested Mandrake Patterson outside the residence shortly after the incident. Police found a shotgun outside the apartment.

He remains at the Washington County Detention Center without bond.
