David Gregory, a journalist for NBC, won’t face charges for displaying on Meet the Press an ammunition magazine that could hold up to 30 rounds, District of Columbia prosecutors said, adding that criminal charges wouldn’t serve the public’s interests even though possession of the high-capacity magazine was against local gun laws.

John Boehner, speaker of the House, has invited President Barack Obama to deliver the State of the Union speech on Feb. 12, and the White House said it has accepted the invitation.

Yonathan Melaku, 24, an ex-Marine who pleaded guilty to firing shots at the Pentagon and other military sites in 2010, has been sentenced in federal court in Alexandria, Va., to 25 years in prison, going forward with a plea deal despite a recent diagnosis of schizophrenia that raised the possibility of an insanity defense.

Jerome Isaac, 48, a handyman who burned Deloris Gillespie, 73, to death in a New York City elevator because he believed she owed him money, has been sentenced to 50 years to life in prison.
