— 100 YEARS AGO Jan. 11, 1913 ROGERS - An enthusiastic crowd attended the good roads meeting at the courthouse and heard A. Ward King of Maitland, Mo., tell how he had worked out a good roads building plan through actual practice. The only reason roads are poor in Arkansas, he declared, is because the people do not want them good. If they wanted good roads badly enough, he said, they would have them.

50 YEARS AGO Jan. 11, 1963 A California group seeking redress in Arkansas law that would prohibit it from undressing in public was refused an opinion today by Atty.Gen. Jack Holt Jr. The group, which calls itself The Perfect Christine Divine Way, Inc., of Holy City, Calif., will hold its 44th annual convocation in Little Rock Feb. 13-17, according to a letter from Robert Clougher, executive secretary. Holt said the attorney general’s office supplies legal opinions only to certain designated state agencies; therefore, Clougher’s request is denied. Clougher said the meeting in Little Rock will be to petition the Arkansas Legislature to repeal the anti-nudismact. The “Perfect Christian Divine Way” defends nudism under the writings of the book of Thomas, an apocryphal book which never was included in regular Biblical texts.

Mike Huckabee plans “to move forward with her appointment,” Huckabee spokesman Rex Nelson said Friday. A state senator who had been portrayed by the governor’s office as opposing confirmation of the appointment because of Caballero-Horner’s age, a portrayal he disputed, said he would ask the state Senate to confirm the appointment.
