DOROTHY JEAN REED ABRAHAM, age 68, departed this lifeon Friday, January 4, 2013. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Robert “Teeny” Abraham; father, Melvin Reed Sr.; two brothers, Freddie C. Walls (Patricia) and Kenneth W.Woods. Survivors include daughter, Carla Abraham-Ross; son, Anthony S. Reed; grandson, Joshua Bradley Ross; mother, Jessie M. Woods; five sisters, Lesia Woods, Kathy Reed, Marilyn Alexander, Christine Reed and Nelda Reed; four brothers, Glenn Woods, Robyn Woods (Charlotte), Melvin Reed, Jr., Nathaniel Reed; and a host of other family and friends. A special thanks to Dr. Fahkar Ijaz and the Kidney Care Center, St. Vincent Hospital, Baptist Rehab Institute, Baptist Medical Center and Cornerstone Hospital. ASTRIDA ILZE (BUSCH) ALLRED, 84, of North Little Rock, passed into bliss January 8 at 10:25 a.m. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Diana (Allred) Strickland also of North Little Rock and by beloved friends considered extended family. She was a Latvian-born immigrant to the United States in 1948. She and her mother left Latvia about 1943 on foot as Russians infiltrated the country. Their journey finalized in Germany where they worked in a military work camp before being granted immigration status to this country.

Astrida dearly loved her adopted country. Her hardship graced her with tolerance, gentleness and the ability to embrace all who knew her. She loved her art, reading, plants and animals. She accepted life’s challenges calmly and without complaint. The same as she accepted her movement into God’s light.

Those wishing to honor her life can make a donation to the Pulaski County Humane Society, 14600 Colonel Glenn Road, Little Rock, Arkansas 72210. LILLIE MAE BITELY, 92, of Little Rock passed away from this life tobe forever with our Lord, January 7th, 2013. The daughter of commercial fisherman John and Mina Shephard, Lillie was born October 2nd, 1920 in Tichnor, Arkansas. She married Marvin Bitely in 1936 and moved to Little Rock where she was a loving mother to her four children, Ruth, John, Donald and Gary. She was a faithful member of South Highland Baptist Church. Lillie’s loving quiet way always promoted much admiration from her family and everyone who met her. She was a truly gracious and respected lady we all were blessed to have known.

Lillie was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Marvin; her son, Donald Bitely; her parents and six siblings. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Ruth (John) Fauntleroy; her sons, John (Becky) and Gary (Debbie); her brother, Bobby Don (Gayle) Shephard; her seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; all who will miss her love and kindness.

LOWELL EUGENE BULLOCK, 89, of North Little Rock, born April 25, 1923 in Huron, South Dakota, passed away on Friday, January 4, 2013. He was a Veteran of the Navy.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen T. Bullock; his mother, Gladys M. Hudson; his brother, Robert Bullock; and his sister, Shirley Bullock. Lowell is survived by his sons, Lowell G. Bullock and Robert L. Bullock; his grandchildren, Jackie T. Barner, Tiffany A. Bullock, and Rachel Bullock; and his greatgrandchildren, Desiree Delgado, Anabelle Delgado, Addie Barner, Ava Barner, and Jordan Delgado.

PETER CROOK GRAY, 46, of Little Rock passed away January 7, 2013. He was born March 27, 1966 in Sacramento, California to Tomps and Barbara Crook Gray. Peter conducted sales and marketing for several Arkansas based companies. He served in the U.S. Army, U.S. Army Reserve and Arkansas Army National Guard at several duty stations as a Combat Medical Specialist, Infantryman, and Instructor. He graduated Calvary Christian Academy in Little Rock and attended University of Arkansas at Little Rock. His interests included art, golf, Razorback football and basketball, music, readingand animals.

He was preceded in death by his father, Tomps Gray, maternal grandparents, Pete and Lois Crook and paternal grandparents, C.E. and Mary Louise Gray. Survivors, mother, Barbara Gray of Bauxite, brother, Andy Gray of Little Rock and sister, Amy Keeland and husband, Phillip of Benton, niece and nephew, Jordan and Brooke Keeland and daughter, Anna.

MARY E. HEARNE, 78, of Little Rock died Sunday, December 30, 2012 at Hospice Home Care in Little Rock. She was born August 2, 1934 in Dallas County, Arkansas. She was a retired legal secretary for the Friday Law Firm.Mary viewed the world through the eyes of an artist and was blessed with the ability to transfer her views to canvas. Her art work was widely utilized during the Arkansas Sesquicentennial to reflect depression-era cotton farms in Arkansas. She was later commissioned by the Old State House to depict downtown Little Rock in its early years. Her paintings hung in the White House during Clinton’s administration, and several Arkansas senators and representatives purchased her art work for their Washington offices. She will be especially remembered for her true-to-life sepia farm scenes. Mary was never restrained by what others thought. She was feisty and full of fun. She will be greatly missed by those who were blessed to have known her.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Henry Evans Hearne and Olive Abbott Hearne; brothers, Wilson Hearne and Fred Hearne; sisters, Mabel Hearne and Josephine Davis. She is survived by three nieces and three nephews.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, January 12, 2013 at Benton Funeral Home in Fordyce with burial following at Macedonia Cemetery. DONNA J. JOHNSON, age 56, of North Little Rock, entered intoeternal peace on Tuesday, January 8, 2013. Donna was born on December 20, 1956 in Little Rock, to the late Jewell D. Sharp and Steve Delong. JAMES B. MAYO, 85, of Sherwood, Ark. and formerly of Blytheville, passed from this life Monday, January 7, 2013 at his home. Born in Blytheville, Ark. to Leonard and Mildred Downs Mayo, he was a veteran of the United States Navy and served during WWII. SELVIN V. RODGERS, 48, Little Rock, departed this life Sunday,January 6, 2013. He was born on June 9, 1964 in Marvell, Ark., to the late Ora Lee Tate and Wilson Rodgers. Preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Terrikia Carter. He was employedas a custodian at Pulaski Heights Middle School with the Little Rock School District.

Survivors, wife, Joyce Rodgers of Little Rock; three sons, Adrian (Deidre) Young, Milton (Bea) Carter Jr., and Selvin Rodgers, Jr., all of Little Rock; Two daughters, Ashante (Bennie) Carter Osler and Britannica Rodgers, both of Little Rock; two brothers, Lee Annias Tate of Marvell, Ark., and William (Lynn) Tate of Staten Island, New York; one sister, Lorie (Paul) Williams of Conway, Ark; five grandchildren.

JEREMY LYNN STAMPER, 35, passed away on January 5, 2013.Jeremy was born on June 20, 1977 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.

He is survived by two sons; Bentley and Brayden Stamper and their mother Dodi of Bryant, Arkansas, his mother and father; Janet and Robert Stamper of East End, fiancee; Melissa Vaughan and her children, Jonathan, Gretchen, and Avery Jane of East End, biological father; Terry Speer of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, brothers; Scott Stamper and wife Tracy of East End, Kasey Speer and wife Jessica of White Hall, and John Speer of White Hall, sister; Michelle Stamper of North Little Rock, biological grandmother; Mildred Davidson, and one nephew; Kurt Stamper, as well as aunts, uncles, and a host of family and friends, all who loved him dearly and will miss him always. He was preceded in death by his brother; Scott Rowland and niece; Miryah Rowland.

Jeremy was a district sales manager for Sysco Foods in Little Rock. He loved spending time with his children and was a huge sports fan. Jeremy loved the Razorbacks, sky diving, played co-ed softball, and coached baseball for the East End Express. He loved the Lord and his family.

Visitation is Thursday, January 10th from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral service will be Friday, January 11th at 10 a.m. at East Union Missionary Baptist Church with Pastors Wayne Blue and Dennis Holmes officiating. Interment to follow at Rest Hills Memorial Park in Sherwood.

LARRY WAYNE WARD, 65 of Mabelvale, passed away January7, 2013 at Mc-Clellan Hospital in Little Rock. He was born January 2, 1948 in Corpus Christi, Texas, to the late Larry D. and Inez Ward. Larry was a retired Army Veteran of twenty years. He wasan Airborne Ranger in Vietnam and spent the remainder of his career in Wiesbaden, Germany.

Larry is survived by his son Marcus Ward of Siegen, Germany; a sister Carolyn Ann Weber (Richard); brothers David and Robert Ward; along with cousins, nieces, nephews, and a special Aunt Martha England of Harrisburg, Illinois. Special thanks to Christina Onecic, caregiver.

ALEXANDER - Robert Edward Lattin Sr., age 62, of Alexander, passed away Monday, January 7, 2013. He was born January 14, 1950 in Bauxite, Ark. Mr. Lattin was a U.S. Army Veteran and later retired from the Reserves. He also retired from the Granite Mt. Rock Quarry as a heavy equipment operator. Mr. Lattin served several years with the Masons.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Deaton Lattin and Annie Lois (Jones) Lattin, three sisters and one brother. BRYANT - Jack Dempsey Conder, 85, of Bryant, passed away December 23, 2012. Jack was born to Charles and Mertie Conder on March 23, 1927 in Narrows, Ky. Jack loved Christmas and playing Santa for family, friends, nursing homes and children’s homes. He alsoenjoyed ridingmotorcycles, camping with family and helping others. Jack was a devoted family man and husband. He was Baptist in faith. Jack served in the military for 23 years. He was in the Navy, Air Force and Seabees. He fought in the Battle of Okinawa during WWII, Korea and two tours in Vietnam, 1966-1968.

Jack was preceded in death by his loving wife Betty Ann Hilson Conder and nine brothers and sisters. He leaves three children, Richard O. HUMPHREY - Sally Jo (Young) Margetson, 85, passed away inDallas, Texas on January 7, 2013. She was born May 13, 1927 in Humphrey, Arkansas. Sally was a school librarian and antiques shop owner. She retired as Media Director for Union Public School District in Tulsa after having a stroke and returned to her home town of Humphrey, Arkansas. Sally joined her brother, the late John W. Young and sister, Frances Young in Young’s Antiques. She thoroughly enjoyed her time in the Antiques business and made many friends. The highlight of her second career was continuing to “teach and educate” her customers about antiques and interior design. Sally completed cancer treatment in Dallas, Texas in March of 2010 and returned to Humphrey. She was cancer free for two years. She was cured of Lymphoma but colon cancer returned January 2012. Sally set a wonderful example for others. She believed that being positive and having an optimistic attitude was paramount.

Sally was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin H. Margetson, and son George E. Margetson. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Perry Hood of Tulsa, daughter and son-in-law, Janie and David Flynt of Dallas, two granddaughters, Becky Collins and Kristen Margetson, sister, Frances E. Young, many nieces and nephews, and dear friends.

WARREN - Captain Lawrence H. Derby, Jr., United States Navy(Ret) of Warren, Ark., and Hot Springs, Ark., died Wednesday, January 9th, in the North Park Medical Center in Hot Springs, Ark. He was born June 30, 1926, in Warren, Ark., a son of the lateLawrence H. Derby Sr. and Mable Meek Derby. Also preceding him in death was his first wife, Marilyn Church Derby, whom he married July 25th 1953, at Steubenville, Ohio, and she died October 21, 2001, and one brother, Sam Derby. He graduated from the Warren Public School system, where he played football and basketball for the Lumberjacks. After graduation from Warren High School, he attended Arkansas A&M at Monticello where he shortly received an appointment to U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. Being a Naval jet pilot was his true love, after graduation from the Academy, he spent a long and eventful career (30 years) in the Navy and the United Sates Naval Reserve earning the rank of Captain and becoming one of the first centurion jet pilots to earn 100 consecutive successful landings on the aircraft carrier, The Midway. He served his country proudly in the Korean Conflict and transferred into the Naval Reserve, serving in Pensacola, Florida, for many yearsand continuing his flying as a private pilot. On completion of active duty, Larry returned to Warren, Ark., to join his father in the Derby Insurance Agency, where he spent over 30 years in the insurance business. In 1964 he joined the Board of Directors of the Warren Bank and Trust Company, servingas director and as chairman of the Trust Committee until his death and served for many decades on the Board of Trustees of Arkansas College, now Lyon College, where he and his late wife, Marilyn Church Derby, endowed The Derby Math and Science Center which has helped lead and promote the education of students at the college in those fields of study and he was very proud of this. He was appointed by Governor Frank White to the Arkansas Aeronautical Commission, where he helped develop and improve municipal airports all over the state, using his personal aircraft, N49D, to accomplish that. He was an avid quail hunter and loved the game of golf, to a fault. Some of his best golfing memories were those at The Alotian Club, playing one of the best courses ever built.

Survivors include his wife, Jean Lee Derby, of Hot Springs, Ark.; two step-sons, Douglas Ward and spouse, Becky, Hot Springs, Ark., and Roger Ward and spouse, Barbie, and their children, Clark, Foxx and Gauge, all of Arkadelphia, Ark. Also, he is survived by his name sake, Mastin Derby Frazer of Warren, Ark.; two nephews Sam Derby Jr. and spouse Caytee, Little Rock, Ark., and Larry M. Derby Sr. and spouse Melissa, Columbus, Ga.; a niece Lisa Derby Tozer and spouse Gregory, Bellevue, Wash.

WHITE HALL - M.L. “Pete” Albright, age 80, of White Hall, diedSaturday, January 5, 2013. He was born October 12, 1932, at Hillsboro, N.C., a son of the late Thomas Albright and Frances Ray Albright. He had served in both the United States Navy andthe United States Marine Corps. Pete moved to Pine Bluff in 1972 to work for the National Center for Toxicological Research. He was the Animal Colony Manager for a number of years, and retired as a Quality Assurance Specialist. His work had also included research labs in California and Maryland. DELRAY BEACH, Fla. - George Howard “Jake” Jacobus, age 82,of Delray Beach, Fla., and Edgartown, Mass., died peacefully surrounded by family and close friends on January 8, 2013, in Delray Beach, Florida. His death was a result of a long illnessdue in part to heroically battling chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) for 29 years. He was born in Caldwell, N.J., at the height of the Great Depression on January 5, 1931, son of Hester Todd Jacobus and George Russell Jacobus. He graduated from Grover Cleveland High School in Caldwell, N.J., class of ’49, where he served as student body president and captain of the varsity basketball team.

Jake graduated from Dartmouth College with the great class of 1953, where he was a Government major and a member of Delta Upsilon fraternity. In the mid-1950s, he trained young pilots to fly T-33s as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at Webb Air Force Base in Big Spring, Texas. A consummate entrepreneur and businessman, he was a founding partner and CEO of Fairfield Communities Land Company, Inc. which built resort communities throughout the South and Southwest. It was headquartered in Little Rock, Ark., where he lived from 1966 until1976. His first marriage to Elizabeth Jones ended in divorce. He and his second wife, Catherine Hohenlohe and family moved to Delray Beach, Fla., in 1976. He was the founder and General Partner of Connark Company, an investment and real estate development company located in Delray Beach. In the 1980s, Jake served on the board of trustees of Newmont Mining Company. He has been an active philanthropist along with his wife, including serving on the Foundation Board for the Achievement Centers for Children and Families of Delray since 1998.

Jake was an avid sailor, as well as a pilot. He savored time with his family on any body of water in any matter of non-motorized floating vessel (Boston whalers were an exception). These included sailboats (large and small), kayaks, dinghies, and row-boats. He was especially fond of the Atlantic Ocean off of Chappaquiddick Island, Massachusetts and Southeast Florida. Jake was a lifelong student of European and North American History and an unswayable Republican, though many tried to sway him. In his great respect for education, he and Catherine awarded private scholarships for higher education to numerous deserving young people. He was a natural athlete and always fit, walking and swimming daily until within weeks of his death. He loved the game of football and was a long-term Miami Dolphins fan.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Catherine H. Jacobus, six children and their families, daughter, Ann Jacobus Kordahl and husband Jim Kordahl of San Francisco, son, William R. Jacobus and wife Crystal Jacobus of Tallahassee, daughter, Sarah Lacy Jacobus of Dallas, Texas, daughter, Alexandra Cook and husband John Conforti of Boston, Mass., son, Todd H. Jacobus and wife Shana Jacobus of Chevy Chase, Md., and son Christian H. Jacobus of Saginaw, Mich.; 12 adoring and devoted grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a brother, Todd Barry Jacobus and wife Patty Jacobus of Little Rock, Ark., and three nieces.

A memorial service will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 188 South Swinton Boulevard, Delray Beach, Fla., at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 12, 2013, with a reception immediately following at the church. BEACH PARK, Ill. - Paul Rytima, 92, of Beach Park, lll., died on Friday, January 4, 2013 at Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan, Ill.He was born August 26, 1920 in Champion, Mich., and moved to this area in 1946. Paul worked for 23 years with Meadow Gold Dairy of Waukegan and was a member of Teamsters Local#301 for 28 years. After retiring from Meadow Gold he became a custodian at Zion-Benton Township High School. Paul was a Veteran of World War II having served with the Army Air Corps (later the Air Force).

Paul was an avid Chicago White Sox fan, enjoyed reading, liked watching TV news, and his greatest love was spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife Gladys; children Linda (Edwin) Johnson of Warren, lll., Jane (Jim) Neal of Winthrop Harbor, lll., Paula Bourland of Winthrop Harbor, lll., Clinton (Diane) Rytima of Garland, Texas, Eric (Brenda) Rytima of Benton, Ark., and Roger (Arlyn) Rytima of Winthrop Harbor, lll.; seven grandchildren Kelly (John) Neal-Wilker, Aaron (Kim) Neal, Trina (Jimmy) Constas, Tahnee (Matt) Lathrop, Michal Rytima,Paul Rytima, and Tyler Rytima; and seven great-grandchildren Rowyn, Bryn, Ella, Vasili, Mylos, Lane, and Auborn. OLIVE BRANCH, Miss. - Calvert J. Hudgens Jr., 89, began his eternal life with his Heavenly Father on January 4, 2013. DALLAS - Sammie Lee Cox, age 65, formerly of Dierks, died Saturday, January 5, 2013 in Dallas, Texas. He was born September 12, 1947 in Howard County. Sammie worked for SWEPCO from 1968 until his retirement in 2010. He was a consultant for SWEPCO 2011-2012. He was a member of the Church of Christ. Sammie enjoyed spending time with family, photography and traveling.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester “Red” and Floy Cox, one son Russell Cox, an infant brother, and brother, Hariol Cox. DALLAS - Lorraine Geraldine Bitz Crowe, age 90, passed awayThursday, January 3, 2013. She was born October 5, 1922 in Brady, Mont. Lorraine graduated from Brady High School in 1939 as Valedictorian. She received a Civil Service appointment to the Veterans Administration in Washington, D.C. In 1944 Lorraine enlisted in the WACS and served as secretary to the colonel, chief of the War Crimes Group in Wiesbaden, Germany, earning a Bronze Star. Following her military service, she was secretary to the General Manager of American Fruit Growers in Los Angeles, Calif. In California, she met Herbert C. Crowe and they were married on July 19, 1952. They lived in Great Falls, Mont., Minneapolis, Minn., Cincinnati, Ohio, and ended up in Dallas, Texas in 1971. Lorraine was interested in oil painting and water color and was an avid bridge player and teacher as well as being a voracious reader. She received her Associate’s Degree in 1983, showing a lifelong love of learning.

Lorraine is preceded in death by her parents, Sebastian and Sophia Bitz; her brother, Melvin Bitz; her sister, Leona Fuhrer and her sonin-law, Don Armstrong. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Herbert Crowe; daughter, Yvonne Armstrong; son, Jeff Crowe; sister, Katherine Forsman; nieces, Connie Skiftun and Thelma McKay (Norlis); nephews, David Forsman (Gay) and Richard Fuhrer (Judy); and many great-nieces and nephews.
