SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Police said a woman lost a large sum of money to two scam artists posing as detectives.

The woman told police Tuesday that she was contacted by a man and woman who briefly displayed a badge and said they had made arrests in St. Louis in a theft case she reported last year.

Police said the pair then asked her to withdraw funds from a bank they believed was giving out counterfeit money.

The victim made the withdrawal and gave the cash to the suspects. The male suspect told her the bills were counterfeit and kept them, telling the woman she would be contacted when an arrest was made at the bank. The woman went home and heard nothing more.
