Elk Center Starts ‘Second Saturdays’
The Ponca Elk Education Center will offer programs and crafts-making for children during free “Second Saturday” events that start this Saturday.
“Second Saturdays” begin at 1 p.m. and will be held through March at the center in Ponca. Materials are provided.
All youngsters receive a junior ranger badge and a certificate.

Focus On Hiking
Four hiking-related classes will be held during January at Lewis & Clark Outfitters in Rogers and Springdale. All classes are free and all begin at 6:30 p.m.
Intro to hiking will be held today in Rogers. Cold-weather hiking and camping is offered Tuesday in Springdale and Jan. 17 in Rogers.
Intro to backpacking will be Jan. 22 in Springdale and Jan. 24 in Rogers. Back-country cooking and water filtration will be Jan. 29 in Springdale and Jan. 31 in Rogers.
Trout Tournament Set On Taneycomo
Lilley’s Landing Resort will hold a trout tournament at Lake Taneycomo on Saturday and again Feb. 23.
Entry fee is $50 per two person team. Fishing is from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event is a catch and release tournament.Only artificial lures may be used.

Audubon Birds
At Beaver Lake
The Northwest Arkansas Audubon Society will host a birding field trip at Rocky Branch park on Beaver Lake at 9 a.m. on Jan. 19.
Meet at the marina parking area. Common winter birds that may be seen include various waterfowl, bald eagles and woodland songbirds.
A program by Joe Neal about winter birds will follow at 2 p.m. at the Hobbs State Park-Conservation Visitor Center.
