Woman Linked to October Beating

— A Hindsville woman faces felony charges in connection with a man’s beating in October.

Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Theresa Lynn Newberry, 33, of 23994 N. Arkansas 303 in connection with felony first-degree battery and first-degree criminal mischief.

Deputies went to Newberry’s home Oct. 19.

According to an arrest warrant, Newberry borrowed Jeremy Sherland’s car and didn’t pick him up, as promised. A relative of Newberry said Sherland called Newberry and said, “I’m coming over there to get my car and I am bringing an ass whipping with me,” according to the report.

When they arrived, the witness said six people came out of the house with baseball bats and began to beat Sherland.

Sherland, who suffered a laceration to his head and bruises to his arm, said he was attacked by a 15-year-old girl, a 13-year-old boy and a man, the report said.

Newberry told deputies Sherland came to her house and hit her with brass knuckles and a baseball bat.

Investigators said evidence collected at the house didn’t match Newberry’s story.

She was arrested Monday and taken to the Washington County Detention Center, where she was being held Tuesday on $11,035 bond.
