UAPB women fall at home

— Alabama A&M stayed in first place in the Southwestern Athletic Conference with a 73-62 victory over UAPB Tuesday night at H.O. Clemmons Arena in Pine Bluff.

The Lady Bulldogs shot 27 of 56 from the floor (48.2 percent), including 50 percent in the first half in jumping out to a 43-30 halftime lead.

The Lady Lions shot 27.1 percent from the field (19 of 70) and were outrebounded 47-32.

Brittany Strickland led Alabama A&M (5-9, 4-0 SWAC) with 14 points, shooting 3 of 7 from the floor and making 7 of 7 free throws.

Ebony Johnson came off the bench to score 11 points. Alyssa Srickland had 12 points, 5 assists and 4 rebounds. Jasmine Sanders had 10 points and 7 rebounds. NaDra Robertson of Conway had 10 points and 10 rebounds. UAPB (5-8, 1-2) was led by Lakenda Marsh, who finished with 20 points on 7-of-15 shooting. Chi Chi Okwumbua had 16 points and 7 rebounds.

Cassidy Wright had 10 points.

UAPB returns to action at 2 p.m. Saturday when it plays at Southern University at Baton Rouge.

SWAC MEN

UAPB 77, ALABAMA A&M 61

PINE BLUFF — Terrell Kennedy had 18 points and 10 rebounds, Davon Haynes had 14 points and 7 rebounds, and Daniel Broughton had 13 points and 10 rebounds as UAPB (4-11, 3-0 SWAC) defeated Alabama State (6-9, 2-2) at H.O. Clemmons Arena.

The Golden Lions led 47-28 at halftime. Despite shooting 30 of 72 from the floor, UAPB had 9 turnovers to Alabama A&M’s 20. The Golden Lions had 11 steals with Broughton picking up three while Alabama A&M had four. They also shot 14 of 18 from the free-throw line while Alabama A&M made 17 of 29.

Demarqueille Tabb led the Bulldogs with 16 points on 7-of-13 shooting and grabbed 12 rebounds. Jeremy Crutcher finished with 15 points and five assist, and Justan Banks had 11 points and 12 rebounds.
