Springdale Too Much For Heritage

— Springdale High got off to a quick start and Rogers Heritage never quite recovered in 7A/6A-West Conference boys basketball action Tuesday night.

The Red Bulldogs led 24-8 after one quarter and cruised to a 60-47 victory over Heritage at War Eagle Arena.

Springdale (10-5, 2-0 7A/6A-West Conference) put three players in double figures, but senior Dashaun Stark got his team going early with three 3-pointers in the opening quarter.

Stark led a balanced attack with 14 points, while Alex Scharlau added 13 and sophomore Tereke Eckwood chipped in 11.

“We talked about the fast tempo and that’s what we wanted,” Springdale High coach Brad Stamps said. “It’s a tempo game and we want to play ours, not theirs. We want to speed’em up a little bit.

“I thought the start was what we needed to be successful. We knew Heritage would be a tough opponent and we knew we’d get their best shot.”

Springdale led 38-24 at halftime and Heritage never got closer than the final score in the second half.

Heritage coach Tom Olsen said the quick start and early deep 3-pointers put his team back on its heels.

“They came out and hit some threes and got out in transition,” Olsen said. “They hit the threes from deep and that’s the kind of shots we thought we had to give up. They made them and that’s a credit to them.”

“Our kids battled hard. We thought if we could get it under 10 we’d have a shot. But we just couldn’t ever get the deficit inside 10.”

Hayden Greenway led Heritage (9-5, 0-2) with a game-high 20 points. Luke Fryauf chipped in nine.

Heritage will host Bentonville on Friday night, while Springdale travels to Siloam Springs.
