— Siloam Springs is feeling right at home in the 7A/6A-West Conference.

Payton Henson led three Siloam players in double figures with 31 points and the Panthers held off several Rogers High rallies to post a 68-49 victory over the Mounties.

Siloam (13-1) is playing in the 7A/6A-West for the first time and the Panthers are off to a 2-0 start.

“That’s a really good start,” Siloam Springs coach Tim Stewart said. “Hopefully, the kids will keep playing hard and it will keep snowballing.”

Henson made 14 of 20 shots from the field and Reece Goddard added 19 points after hitting five 3-pointers for the Panthers. Dylan Gray was also in double figures for Siloam with 15 points.

“That’s a combo that we think we can go to consistently,” Stewart said. “Reece has proven that he is a quality shooter, and Payton really stretches the defense. Then you throw in Dylan and the others, and it is a really good combination.”Hunter Hill led Rogers with 21 points while Zach Jones added 12. Rogers was within four points, 43-39, after a layup by Jones with 2 minutes, 19 seconds left in the third period. But Siloam countered with a 9-0 run to pull away.

“We made a couple of runs,” Rogers coach Wayne Herren said. “But when we got close, they went to Henson. It’s hard to have an answer for a great player like him.”

Henson scored 16 points the first nine minutes of the game but the Mounties came roaring back to cut the lead to 33-28 behind three 3-pointers by Hill.

But Siloam took a 36-28 lead at halftime when Goddard hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer.

“Give Rogers credit, they hit a lot of big threes,” Stewart said. “They are tough to play.”

Rogers returns to action Friday when Fayetteville visits King Arena.

Siloam Springs won the junior varsity game 60-35. Keetun Pierce led Siloam with 15 points while Brandon Johnson added 13. Edgar Martinez scored nine for the Mounties.
