McClellan’s defense forces 38 turnovers

— Little Rock McClellan forced Helena-West Helena Central into 38 turnovers and cruised to an 82-58 victory at the Lions’ Den Gymnasium in Little Rock.

After falling behind 14-9 early in the first quarter, the Lions (8-5, 2-0 5A-Central) went on an 18-0 run that stretched until the 5:02 mark of the second quarter, when Helena-West Helena’s Anthony Lewis hit a basket to make the score 27-16.

McClellan stretched that lead to 44-26 by halftime.

Helena-West Helena (3-4, 0-2) cut the lead to 49-37, but the Lions answered with a 10-2 run to push the lead to 59-39. The Cougars never pulled any closer as McClellan stretched its lead to as much as 25 points in the fourth quarter before the Lions put in the reserves.

McClellan was led by Tyrin Greg Hollis with 17 points, followed by Davion Givens with 12 points. Anthony Lewis led the Cougars with 22 points.
