— Rogers Heritage rained down 3-point shots and reined in Springdale High guards Tuesday night.

The combination helped the Lady War Eagles cruise to a 62-37 victory and improve to 2-0 in the 7A/6A-West Conference at War Eagle Arena.

Heritage took control of the game with a 12-0 second-quarter run and never really looked back.

Sophomore Emilie Jobst poured in a team-high 21 points, including six 3-pointers, while senior Ashley Ward added 20. Brittany Ward chipped in 10 points, eight assists and four steals.

The trio proved to be a winning combination for the Lady War Eagles (12-3, 2-0 7A/6A-West).

Jobst had five points, including a 3-pointer, while Ashley Ward had five points in the run. Brittany Ward had two steals and two assists in the key spurt.

Heritage turned a 20-19 lead into a 32-19 advantage a little more than a minute left before halftime.

Heritage coach Kevin Ramey said his team did a good job of spreading the wealth. The Lady War Eagles also limited Springdale starting guards Baiyinnah Taylor and Brittany Jurgens to a combined six points, including just one field goal.

“Emilie had some open looks, and she made ‘em,” Ramey said. “Lacey had some open looks, and she made ‘em. I thought we were really hard to guard.

“Even though they were doubling Ashley some, she worked hard and we were able to get her the ball inside. But the big thing is we held them to 13 in the second half and did a good job rebounding.”

Springdale coach Heather Hunsucker agreed Heritage’s 3-point shooting, particularly by Jobst, was big in the game.

“I thought we were doing a decent job defending (Brittany Ward) and (Ashley Ward) and (Ellen Lundy), but then (Jobst) Jobst got going and that opened the game up,” Hunsucker said.

“They shot 46 percent from the 3-point line, and I told my kids sometimes when a team shoots that well, you just have to tip your hat to them. We had too many turnovers, too.”

Javonda Daniels led Springdale (6-9, 1-1) with 21 points, including four 3-pointers.
