Teacher Corps applications sought

The University of Arkansas is accepting applications for a new teacher-preparation program designed to help districts around the state fill teaching positions. The Arkansas Teacher Corps will provide an accelerated learning path to help fill positions in poor communities.

Applicants must have bachelor’s degrees in any major, demonstrate academic success and be service-oriented, according to a UA news release. Arkansas Teacher Corps Fellowship recipients will receive $5,000 stipends per year in addition to their salaries from the school districts that hire them.

The program’s goal is to have 100 fellows teaching around the state by 2015. Early decision applications are due Jan. 18, and the final application deadline is March 15.
