Astronomy Program Scheduled At Hobbs Saturday

The first free astronomy program of the year at Hobbs State Park-Conservation Area is scheduled for Saturday.

Sugar Creek Astronomical Society will present a beginning astronomy program followed by night sky viewing using telescopes provided by the society and Friends of Hobbs State Park, according to a news release.

Jack McDaniel, society president, said participants will see Orion Nebula (M42), Trapezium, Jupiter, the Andromeda and Pinwheel galaxies, and the Pleiades.

Participants should take a flashlight covered with a red cloth or red balloon; binoculars and/or telescope, if available; a folding chair; and a star chart, if available.

The beginning astronomy class is at 4:30 p.m. followed by the night sky viewing at 5:30 p.m..

The Visitor Center is located at Arkansas 12 just east of the War Eagle Road intersection.
