The Fayetteville Public Library will host The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pen, a series of six 90-minute workshops for beginning or intermediate writers, starting Tuesday.

Workshops are intended for fiction and nonfiction writers.

Tuesday’s workshop is Make ‘Em Smell the Coffee: Creating a Sense of Place.

Pamela Foster will show participants exercises designed to tap into the reader’s senses.

Other workshops will focus on point of view, editing, interviewing characters and publishing problems. The final session will be a panel discussion and question-and--answer session with instructors.

Classes will meet each Tuesday at 6 p.m. and will run through Feb. 12; registration is required.

Catch Me If You Can opens Tuesday

The Walton Arts Center in Fayetteville will host eight performances of the play Catch Me If You Can beginning Tuesday as part of the arts center’s 2012-2013 Broadway Series.

Based on the DreamWorks film of the same name, the play tells the true story of Frank Abagnale Jr., a con artist who passes himself off as a doctor, a lawyer and a jet pilot before he turns 21, and Carl Hanratty, an FBI agent tracking Abagnale.

The Broadway production has been nominated for four Tony Awards and six Drama Desk Awards. Tickets cost $39-$59.

Show times are 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 8 p.m. on Friday, 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Saturday, and 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Sunday.
