UALR loses lead, game at Troy

— UALR let a 10-point second-half lead slip away, falling to Troy 67-64 in a Sun Belt Conference game Saturday night at the new Trojan Arena in Troy, Ala.

UALR (9-8, 3-3) lost for the first time this season when holding its opponent to less than 70 points.

Troy (6-10, 1-4) outscored UALR 13-2 during a stretch midway through the second half to take a one-point lead with 7:39 to play.

A free throw by UALR junior Will Neighbour tied the game at 56-56 at the 4:30 mark, but Troy came back with a three-pointer by R.J. Scott and never relinquished the lead. Freshman Josh Hagins pulled UALR within one point on a pullup jumper with 49 seconds remaining.

Troy had the possession arrow in its favor after a held ball, then Scott made two free throws to make it 67-64 with 16.9 seconds left.

UALR called a timeout, but couldn’t convert as Kemy Osse’s three-point attempt went off the back of the rim.

Hagins and Neighbour led UALR with 14 points each, and junior Leroy Isler scored 13 points. Hagins added four assists and four steals while getting his second consecutive start and playing a career-high 33 minutes. Neighbour finished with a team-high five rebounds.
