Finalists announced for Eclipse Awards

— Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Fort Larned, Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner I’ll Have Another and Breeders’ Cup Mile winner Wise Dan are finalists for Horse of the Year.

I’ll Have Another, Belmont Stakes winner Union Rags and Derby and Belmont runner-up Bodemeister, who won the $1 million Grade I Arkansas Derby at Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs, are finalists for 3-yearold champion male honors.

The 42nd annual Eclipse Awards will be presented Jan. 19 at Gulfstream Park near Miami.

Midwest Thoroughbreds is one of three finalists for champion owner. Midwest was Oaklawn’s leading owner.

Breeders’ Juvenile winner Shanghai Bobby, Uncaptured and Violence are contenders for 2-year-old male. Fort Larned, Little Mike and Wise Dan are finalists for older male.

Groupie Doll, Include Me Out and two-time Breeders’ Cup Ladies’ Classic winner Royal Delta are up for older female honors.

Hall of Famer Bob Baffert, Todd Pletcher and Dale Romans are vying for trainer of he year honors.

Javier Castellano, Ramon Dominguez and John Velazquez are finalists for jockey honors, while Jose Montano, Irad Ortiz Jr. and Angel Suarez are contenders for apprentice jockey.

The Eclipse Awards are voted on by the National Thoroughbred Racing Association, Daily Racing Form and the National Turf Writers and Broadcasters.
