— GOLF Arkansas’ Lopez leads in Florida

Arkansas freshman Gabriela Lopez shot a second-round 1-under-par 71 moving to the top of the leaderboard at the Copa de las Americas at Doral Golf Resort and Spa in Miami.

Lopez, playing for Team Mexico, shot a 73 in the first round and has a one-stroke lead through the stroke play portion of the team tournament. Lopez made the turn at even par with two birdies and two bogeys in the first nine holes. She struggled with a birdie and a double bogey on the back nine, but rallied with four birdies, including three in a row to finish her round.

The Copa de las Americas is an amateur team competition for countries in North America, Central America, South America and the Caribbean. There are three 72-hole competitions - men’s, women’s and overall - with 18 holes played on each of the four days. Playing this week will be Mexico, Guatemala, Argentina, Canada, Colombia, United States, Venezuela and Trinidad and Tobago.

BASKETBALL Hendrix women lose to Oglethorpe

Hendrix lost to Oglethorpe University 62-59 in Southern Athletic Association women’s action at Dorough Field House on Friday night in Atlanta.

With the loss, the visiting Warriors fell to 0-12 on the year and 0-2 in league play, while the Lady Petrels improved to 3-10 and 1-1.

Caitlin Kriesel-Bigler recorded a season-high 20 points, hitting six three pointers, and had three assists to lead Hendrix. Jaime Tate added 18 points and 18 rebounds and junior forward Katie Coughran added eight points and a career-best 12 rebounds.

Sarah Giles paced Oglethorpe with 20 points, 12 rebounds and 4 steals.
