5A-CENTRAL BOYS

PA doesn’t sweat cold shooting

— His team’s shooting might have been as frosty as the recent winter storm, but Pulaski Academy Coach Roger Franks liked what he saw from this Bruins in the first half Friday night in their 5A-Central Conference opener against Little Rock Christian.

The Bruins forced more turnovers than the Warriors had shots and eventually pulled away for a 55-35 victory at Alex Hugg Gymnasium.

“I liked the way we were playing defense,” Franks said. “We did not get them the open looks that they like and we kept good pressure on the ball.”

The Bruins hit three of their final five shots to take a 13-10 lead at the end of the first quarter, but they also forced the Warriors into eight turnovers and held them to just seven shots.

“We had to stay on top of them and use our length to help us on defense,” Franks said. “We have got a long way to go. This is a work in progress, but this is a good start.”

The Warriors (3-8) opened the second quarter with four consecutive points to take a 14-13 lead but Pulaski Academy (4-3) outscored Little Rock Christian 9-1 to close out the half and took a 22-15 lead into the break.

Brandon Brady, who scored all nine of the Bruins’ points in the second quarter, finished with 27 points. Tyler Colquitt added 14 points for the Bruins.
