Jobless aid applications in U.S. rise to 372,000

More Americans than forecast filed claims for unemployment insurance payments last week, according to government figures that were estimated because some state agencies closed during the holidays. The Labor Department said Thursday that weekly applications rose by 10,000 to a seasonally adjusted 372,000 in the week that ended Saturday. The previous week’s total was revised higher.
