— BASKETBALL HSU women outlast UAFS The Henderson State women’s team pushed its winning streak to five games with a 51-49 victory over Arkansas-Fort Smith on Wednesday at the Duke Wells Center in Arkadelphia.

The Lady Reddies (8-2) struggled from the perimeter in the first half, shooting just 29.6 percent (8 of 27) as the Lady Reddies went into the locker room trailing 32-25.

The Lady Reddies used an 11-2 run at the start of the second half to capitalize on poor shooting by the Lady Lions (3-9), who missed their first 17 shots from the perimeter to start the half. The Lady Reddies took the lead, 36-34, with 6:25 remaining.

A layup by UAFS’ Angi Ramey at the 6:11 mark ended the Lady Lions’ shooting drought and tied the game at 36-36. The Lady Reddies took control for good with an 11-0 run that made it 47-36.

Krystal Beachum led the Lady Reddies with 16 points. Senior forward Destiny Smith had 11 points and 15 rebounds. Smith also led the team with four steals and had two assists.
