— A Faulkner County man remained in jail after being charged with first-degree murder in the Dec. 14 shooting of Charles Hooten.

Andrew Judd Elrod, 58, of Conway was held in lieu of $250,000 bond.

Elrod, who was charged Friday, faces a pretrial hearing Monday in Faulkner County Circuit Court.

Elrod was charged earlierwith second-degree battery, also a felony, in the nonfatal shooting of Debbie Ford, 47. That felony charge is punishable by up to six years in prison.

The shootings of Hooten, 39, and Ford, both of Conway, took place about 1:30 a.m. outside Elrod’s home on Buddy Lane off Arkansas 286, just outside Conway.

First-degree murder is punishable in Arkansas by 10 to 40 years or life in prison.
