Candidates File Final Reports

Mayor Campaign Money Spent Mostly on Advertising

— Fayetteville Mayor Lioneld Jordan spent close to $40,000 to win re-election in November, according to his final campaign contribution and expenditure report.

Jordan took in $38,342 and spent $37,420 according to the report, which was due Monday at the Washington County Clerk’s Office.

Jordan’s campaign carried over $3,132 from the 2008 mayoral race, which he won in a runoff.

Dan Coody, the former mayor and Jordan’s opponent in November and in 2008, raised $37,520 and listed expenses of $37,353.

Included in his total contributions was $5,000 Coody personally loaned to his campaign.

The lion’s share of expenditures from both camps went to newspaper, television and radio advertising, direct mail and signs.

Coody listed 65 contributions of $200 or less; 10 of $250; two of $300; seven of $500; three of $1,000; two of $1,500 and seven of $2,000. The largest contributions were from Bill Conner, John M. Walker, Michelle Russell, Heather Fallin, Patricia Vanlandingham and ARPC, a Realtor political action committee.

Jordan listed 116 contributions of $200 or less; eight of $225 to $250; six of $350; one of $390; one of $450; 14 of $500; two of $550; seven of $1,000 and two of $2,000. The largest contributions came from the Fayetteville Firefighters’ Association and the Fayetteville Fraternal Order of Police.

Jordan remembered being outspent by Coody in the 2008 mayor’s race, a campaign that dwarfed 2012 totals. Coody raised $87,375 that year compared to Jordan’s $49,615, according to past campaign contribution and expenditure reports.

Jordan said he was satisfied with his 2012 fundraising efforts.

“You’re always appreciative of what the people give you,” Jordan said. “Whatever it is, you know it came from the heart.”

Ward 2 Alderman Matthew Petty listed total contributions of $1,935 and expenses of $847 in his Nov. 6 re-election bid. Petty loaned his campaign $276.

Petty received two contributions of $250 each from local fire and police unions.

Ward 4 Alderman-elect Alan Long listed contributions of $3,590 and loaned his campaign $5,347. Long listed total expenditures of $8,937.

Martin Schoppmeyer and Sarah Marsh ran unopposed in Ward 3 and Ward 1, respectively.

Schoppmeyer and Marsh listed no contributions or expenses.
