Seven Bentonville High School members will perform in today’s Rose Parade as part of the Bands of America Honor Band.

Those performing are Julianne Clements, drum major; Devin Brooksby, baritone; Byron Marciniak, baritone; Matt Hall, percussion; Jackson Urhahn, trumpet; Monica Gates, color guard; and Melissa Wadley, dancer.

The students were selected from among hundreds of applicants, according to a news release. Their band director, Scott Tomlinson, has been involved with the Bands of America organization for nearly 20 years.

“We are on a path that links us with the Bands of America family and the many great educational activities they provide for the young people involved with their school’s music programs,” Tomlinson said.

The Honor Band is a 325-piece national ensemble with winds, percussion and a flag and dance team. Bob Buckner, who recently retired as director of the Western Carolina University “Pride of the Mountains” Marching Band, will direct the 2013 band.

The 124th Rose Parade’s theme “Oh, the Places You’ll Go!” The 5.5-mile parade will be broadcast on ABC, Hallmark Channel, HGTV, NBC, RFD-TV and Univision. Air time is 10 a.m.
