BADGER CLASSIC

Lions take time, pull away in 4th

— Little Rock Mc-Clellan slowed things down in the third, then ran away with a big fourth quarter for a 47-32 victory over Beebe in the championship game of the Badger Classic.

The Lions (6-5) led 25-21 with just over four minutes left in the third quarter, then elected to hold the ball and run down the clock. The tactic worked better than expected, as McClellan got just one point on a free throw on that possession, but a turnover in the final seconds followed by a three pointer by Akee Johnson gave the Lions a 29-21 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

“Beebe is such a disciplined team and doesn’t get out of place very often, so we knew the game would be a grind,” Little Rock McClellan Coach Chris Threat said. “We wanted to limit their chances, and getting those points at the end of the third was huge.”

Beebe (8-4) outscored McClellan 4-0 to start the fourth quarter, making it 29-25.

The Lions outscored the Badgers 9-0, starting with a three-pointer by Tyrin Hollis. Hollis scored 9 of his 11 points in the fourth quarter. Johnson led all scorers with 14 points.

GIRLS BEEBE 43, HARDING ACADEMY 39

The Lady Badgers (9-5), down 8-0 in the first quarter, rallied for a victory over Harding Academy in the girls championship game.

Harding Academy (10-3) used two three-pointers by Anna Lowery to take a 15-9 lead by the end of the first quarter, but Beebe surged to a 24-21 halftime lead behind Kalela Miller, who led all scorers with 23 points.

Miller scored 17 points in the first half, including 13 in the second quarter. Senior guard Jamie Jackson scored 12 points for Beebe, with 10 of those coming in the second half.
