LR Fair’s buzzer beater off mark

Little Rock Fair gave itself a shot to advance to the second round of the Class 6A boys state tournament but came up just short.

Jerrick Cole missed a three-point shot at the buzzer as Greenwood slipped away with a 48-46 victory over Little Rock Fair on Wednesday at H.B. Stewart Bulldog Arena.

“From where I was standing, it looked like it was going in,” Greenwood Coach Brian Martin said. “He had a good look at it there, but he just missed.

“It feels good just to win and advance.”

Cole hit two three-pointers and led Fair with 16 points, while Ethan Clark finished with a game-high 19 points and four rebounds for Greenwood.

Greenwood built an 11-point lead during the third quarter, but Fair put together a 10-4 run in the final quarter and took the lead with 2:30 left when Corey Summons made two free throws. It was Fair’s first lead since the opening quarter.

Alex Bernard, who finished with 11 points, scored eight points in the final quarter for Fair, which trailed 39-32 going into the fourth quarter.

“That’s a tough one to lose,” Little Rock Fair Coach Charlie Johnson said. “We had an opportunity to win, and that’s all you can ask for. We played well enough to win, but it just didn’t happen.”

Clark made two free throws with 1:33 left to play that ended up being the difference for Greenwood.

“They could really shoot jumpers off the dribble and they are a tough match-up for us,” Martin said. “We just found a way to find a win at the end.”

The War Eagles had to play most of the fourth quarter without Allante Plant, who had 10 points and a team-high nine rebounds when he fouled out.

“That was big for us, because he shouldn’t have picked up that foul shooting the ball,” Johnson said. “We had plenty of time to reset and get the ball back, but he fouled out like that.”JONESBORO 58, SHERIDAN 40

Marquise Bryant lead the way with a game-high 14 points, Aaron Washington had 12 and Kahron Ross added 10 as Jonesboro (26-4) defeated Sheridan (5-15).

Washington scored 10 first-quarter points, which helped the Hurricane build a 24-11 lead heading into the second quarter. Jonesboro led 51-32 heading into the fourth quarter.

Sheridan was led by Dylan Morris, who scored 11 points.
