— Jones Trust issues challenge

The Jones Charitable Trust has issued a challenge grant of $17,500 to the Northwest Arkansas Women’s Shelter to help provide safe shelter and support services to an increasing number of men, women and child victims of domestic violence.

This challenge grant will match other contributions to the organization dollar for dollar, up to $17,500.

In 2013, the Northwest Arkansas Women’s Shelter celebrates 25 years of providing safe shelter and support services to men, women and children victimized by domestic violence or sexual assault.

The Rogers Historical Museum has been notified that the Friends of the Museum have been awarded an Arkansas Heritage Month grant of $2,748 to help fund production of a new community exhibit. This year’s Arkansas Heritage Month theme is “Saving Our Heritage: Arkansas’s Historic Structures,” and the planned exhibit will focus on historic districts and significant individual buildings in Benton County.

“Preserving Places: Landmark Buildings of BentonCounty” will begin with a panel focusing on historic preservation in general, and topics will include the Arkansas and National Registers, the National Trust, the Main Street program, the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program and the Arkansas Alliance for Historic Preservation. This panel will include photographs illustrating the various topics, as well as sources of information for owners of historic buildings.

Other panels will focus on specific areas of Benton County, with one devoted to the commercial historic district and significant individual buildings in Rogers, one devoted to the two historic districts and other significant buildings in Bentonville, one devoted to the commercial historic district and other significant buildings in Siloam Springs, and the last devoted to historic districts and significant buildings in other towns and in rural Benton County.

The community exhibit will rotate to four different venues in Rogers and may be hosted at other sites in the county as well. The first venue for the new exhibit will be the Rogers Adult Wellness Center, where the exhibit will open on May 6.

Panera Bread

and Oklahoma City Bakery Inc. donated more than $1.3 million in food and money during 2012, according to Renee Eiffert, director of marketing for the fast casual bakery café chain based in Springfield, Mo. TBI/ OKC owns and operates 32 Panera Bread bakery cafes in Arkansas, Oklahoma and southwestern Missouri.

In Arkansas, Panera Bread donated more than $47,000 to help local snack pack programs and pantries, breast cancer awareness organizations, schools, shelters, churches and other nonprofit organizations.

Panera Bread in Arkansas supports University of Arkansas Full Circle Food Pantry, Community Clearinghouse and Arkansas Foodbank as part of its Operation Dough-nation program. Panera Bread customers made cash donations at the register to support the fight against hunger.

In addition, each second Friday, Panera Bread focuses on helping local elementary school-aged children at risk of going hungry over the weekend through Food for Kids and other snack pack programs. Customers have the opportunity to support these programs by purchasing selected items, with a portion of the proceeds donated to individual programs. Snack pack partners in Arkansas are Arkansas Rice Depot, Community Clearinghouse, Samaritan Community Center, and North Little Rock Public Schools Snack Pack program.
