— CENTRAL ARKANSAS 19, MISS. VALLEY STATE 3

The Central Arkansas Bears (7-1) hit their first two home runs of the season as they easily handled Mississippi Valley State (1-8) in a nonconference game Tuesday afternoon at Bear Stadium in Conway.

Junior first baseman Doug Votolato hit a three-run shot to right field in the third inning and senior right fielder Forrestt Allday hit another three-run home run to left-center in the seventh inning as UCA racked up 11 hits off four pitchers.

Allday finished 3 for 5 with 4 RBI and 2 runs scored and made a spectacular diving catch in right field. Votolato was 1 for 3 with 3 RBI and 2 runs scored.

UCA starter Ethan McKinzie gave up five hits and no earned runs in six innings for his first victory.

UCA, which is 7-0 at home this season, fell behind 1-0 in the second inning but overcame that deficit with three runs in the bottom of the inning. Nick Rougeau had a sacrifice fly, Logan Moon scored on a balk and Allday had an RBI single.

Votolato made it 6-1 with one swing in the third inning before UCA scored another run in the fourth when Blake Marchal scored on a double-play groundout.

MVSU scored an unearned run in the sixth, but UCA answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Michael Marietta’s sacrifice fly scored Allday and Marchal came in on a wild pitch for a 9-2 lead.

After Allday’s home run in the seventh made it 12-2, the Bears added seven more in the eighth inning. Tyler Langley,Rougeau, Garrett Bock, Chris Townsend, Jonathan Davis and Sam Moon contributed RBI in the inning.

Seth Milliorn and Trey Lacy had two hits each for MVSU.

VANDERBILT 7, ARKANSAS STATE 3

Vanderbilt (8-1) scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to break a 3-3 tie and hold off Arkansas State (6-2) in a nonconference game at Hawkins Field in Nashville, Tenn.

It was Vanderbilt’s sixth consecutive victory.

Vanderbilt put together two hits in the eighth and took advantage of an ASU error, two walks and a hit batsman.

ASU starter Bradley Wallace turned in a solid effort, striking out a career high-tying seven batters in 4 2/3 innings. Wallace, Chandler Hawkins and Seth McWilliams combined to limit the Commodores to just three runs over the first seven innings.

Zach George had a triple and a tworun home run to lead ASU. Collin Massanelli drove in the other run for ASU, and Claude Johnson had two hits.

Vince Conde had a home run in the third inning and drove in another run with a single up the middle in the fourth inning to give Vanderbilt a 2-0 lead.

ASU scored three runs on three hits in the fifth inning to take a 3-2 lead. Massanelli singled home Dustin Jones, who started the inning with an infield single, and George followed with his two-out home run.

Connor Harrel tied the game in the bottom half of the inning with a home run to left-center field.
