Scoring Correction Pushes Mounties Into Tie For Second At State Wrestling

Rogers High finished in a second-place tie at the Class 6A-7A state wrestling championships upon further review.

The Mounties were in third, two points behind Little Rock Catholic according to results immediately following the tournament Saturday evening. However, a scoring error was found, which left Catholic and Rogers tied with 191.5 points for second behind state champion Bentonville’s 254, according to tournament officials.

Nick Mulcahy won a state title in the 152 pounds division for the Mounties, while Gio Soto (220) Edwin Santos (182) both finished second and Justin Moore (154) took third.

Shipley, Parish Earn All-Conference

After winning three of its last four games to end the regular season slate to earn the No. 4 seed in the Sooner Athletic Conference tournament, John Brown University senior guard Anna Parish and junior guard Sierra Shipley found themselves nominated to the All-Conference awards listings.

Shipley, of Fayetteville, was named to the third team, following up her Honorable Mention accolade last season. She was the only Golden Eagle to average in double-digit points this season, scoring 11.7 points per night. She scored a career-high 328 points and has racked up 57 assists, good enough for second on the squad. Shipley scored a season-high 20 points in a loss to St. Gregory's on Jan. 10, and notched a season-high five assists in a victory over Science and Arts on Jan. 31. She ranks No. 37 in the nation in 3-point field goal percentage (35.6).

Parish was named to the honorable mention list as she led the nation in free-throw percentage (.933) and dished out a team-high 61 assists this season.

Rakestraw, Josephs Names All-SAC

After finishing the season with a program-best 25 wins, five JBU Golden Eagles have been nominated to the Sooner Athletic Conference All-Conference squads, led by senior guard Coleson Rakestraw and freshman guard Kofi Josehps.

Rakestraw, of Siloam Springs, earned first-team accolades after capping off his senior campaign with 68 3-pointers over the course of the season while shooting an efficient 44.2 percent from beyond the arc, good enough for No. 14 in the nation.

Josephs was named the Freshman of the Year after averaging 12.63 points per game.

Senior guard Abel Galliguez was named to the second team, while E.J. McWoods and sophomore forward Max Hopfgartner were both voted to the honorable mention team.

Sheehy Wins Coach of the Year

After leading his team to the program's most successful regular season to date, head men's basketball coach Clark Sheehy was named the Sooner Athletic Conference Coach of the Year.

Sheehy, of Siloam Springs and a former Golden Eagle basketball player, guided the men to their first-ever SAC regular season championship, finishing with a record of 14-2 in conference play. John Brown features a 5-2 record against top-25 competition this season, one of the best marks in the nation.

"It really is an incredible honor," Sheehy said. "There are many great coaches in our conference, and their nomination is really a blessing. Ultimately, this award is a reflection of my assistant coaches, Aaron Niven and Justin Ritz, as well as the players and their hard work. They're the ones that make me look good."
