LITTLE ROCK — Chocolate. It’s what’s for breakfast.
At least Fiber One and Special K, which recently introduced new chocolate cereals, believe it should be. So we conducted a Slim Pickings showdown.
In this corner, we have Fiber One 80 Calorie Chocolate Cereal (which is only 80 calories if you have your ¾-cup serving without milk; it’s 120 with ½ cup skim milk). Crisp, lightly sweetened high-fiber (9 grams per serving) squares taste a hint earthy but mainly chocolaty.
And in this corner, we have Special K Limited Edition Chocolatey Strawberry Cereal (110 calories for ¾ cup; 150 calories with ½ cup skim milk). Sweet quick-to-get-soggy flakes are joined by tart freeze-dried strawberry slivers and sparse waxy bits of supposed chocolate with little flavor.
Our undisputed lightweight chocolate cereal champ: Fiber One.
